NMTC Consulting

The purpose of the federal New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program is clear: to stimulate new investment in severely distressed communities that would not otherwise occur. Unfortunately the program is largely unknown to the organizations that need them most.

CBO Financial has been involved with the NMTC program since its inception in 2002. We have secured awards every year since totaling $500 million in allocations for ourselves and clients. As seasoned veterans we serve as an access point to the NMTC industry for nonprofits, municipal economic development agencies and for-profit developers seeking to access the program.

NMTC Placement Agent

Our subsidiary, Community Development Funding, LLC (CDF), has received $130 million in NMTCs, and we can offer these credits when they are available.

If we don’t have NMTCs available, as an NMTC placement agent we excel at locating other sources of tax credits in unexpected places. We prepare comprehensive financing request packages that go directly to lenders, investors and NMTC recipients, help negotiate terms and take a leadership role in closing the financing. Our detailed placement services for qualified borrowers have secured NMTCs which support over $125 million in development projects.

CDE Consulting Services

Community Development Entities (CDE) serve as intermediaries for the NMTC program. Our knowledgeable on-staff technical writers are experts at crafting compelling NMTC applications. To date we’ve authored 14 successful NMTC applications which have resulted in $495 million in awards. We can also write applications so that an organization may become a CDE and therefore be eligible to receive NMTCs.

Once you have an award, CBO will provide training and guidance regarding management, deployment and compliance with the program. Our staff of professionals can help:
